What We Have Been Up To Over The Weekend

It was a long and boring weekend for us as we were stuck at home. SIL and family went to a relative house at Batu Pahat last Friday and they stayed there for 2 days. Poor Sharlene, she has no companion to play with for 2 full days. In the absence of her piao cheh, I became her playmate for the whole of Saturday. We read, did some colouring worksheets, played computer games, and in between all these she also got scolding from me for misbehaving. Time passed by really fast on that day, it’s bedtime again before we knew it!

On Sunday, we were out to Capitol Hotel for buffet lunch in conjunction with hubby’s cousin son’s 8th birthday celebration. The hotel served quite a good spread of food and there were many choices of desserts too. No photos of the food though as I was too busy gorging on them and entertaining my lil’ missy :P She kept running to the food counters and what attracted her the most were desserts like ice-creams and cakes. Whilst we were still at the hotel, SIL and family were travelling back from Batu Pahat and they managed to drop by before the function ended. Before heading home, we walked across to Sg. Wang for window-shopping but we didn’t stayed there for long, just want to jalan-jalan since we have not been there for ages. Moreover, the place was really jam-packed with shoppers. Back home, we had hawker’s food for dinner.

We again have nowhere to go on Monday. So we just ‘lepak’ at home. I wasn’t feeling too good on the later part of the day. I had a bloating feeling, gassy stomach and felt like vomiting. After a few rounds to the bathroom, I finally vomited. It was such a relief but the feeling didn’t last long as later, I had pain in the upper stomach again. Haih, I really hated that awful feeling. So off I went to the clinic. Doctor said it was a case of indigestion, gave me some medicines and a mc for the next day. Guess, I ate too much at the hotel the day before and also the spicy hawker’ food which I took at night.

Although I’m back to work today, I have yet to fully regain my appetite. I can’t even finish a bowl of fish ball noodles for lunch this afternoon and I only took about 2 tablespoonful of rice and some vege for dinner :(

I haven't been frequenting and leaving comments on your blogs these few days. As I'm feeling better today, I’m going to start blog hopping again :D

Some photos taken on Sunday....
Sharlene kept talking and disturbing her piao cheh. Jasmine just arrived from Batu Pahat and was about to indulge in her lamb chop but poor gal, she can't even eat in peace...haha.

Mummy, this jelly is no good. I don't want....you eat ok.

This photo was taken in the toys department of Parkson @ Sg. Wang. Sharlene was deeply attached to the mini cat plush toy. So, we ended up buying it for her.

Ice-Cream Treat

Whenever we make a trip to shopping mall, Sharlene will definitely request for ice-cream when we walk pass McD or any ice-cream outlets. She loves ice-cream to bits. Well, who doesn’t like ice-cream rite, especially kids? I’m an ice-cream lover myself...haha.

My sis-in-law gave us a treat of gelato fruity ice cream when we brought the kids to Mid Valley Megamall during the last school holidays.

Here’s our selection of ice-cream - Strawberry yogurt for Sharlene, chocolate flavor for Jasmine, Soursop for Simon and Rum and raisin for me!

We were so tired of walking and decided to just sit down and enjoy our delightful treat :D

Our Father's Day

Yesterday morning, Sharlene wished daddy Happy Father’s Day and handed to him a card which both of us did for him on Saturday evening. Instead of buying a cake, I just baked a batch of chocolate marble cupcakes for that occasion. Shall post pix of the card and cupcakes another time.

We made a trip to our paed office yesterday morning. My 8-year old niece has been complaining of soreness in one of her breasts. Upon checking, my sil discovered a lump in her nipple area. When the paed examined her yesterday, she said it’s only a ‘breast bud’, usually occurring at the beginning of puberty in girls and it’s perfectly normal. Since Sharlene was there too, she’d her Hepatitis A jab. The jab was administered by the paed in a second… and she didn’t even know what’s happening…haha. Another dose will be in 6 months’ time.

I’d earlier on promised Sharlene that I will bring her to McDonald’s. Her special treat from me for being good…hehe. So after the paed visit, we brought along the 2 fathers (hubby and brother-in-law) to McD for lunch :D We spent almost 2 hours there and both Sharlene and her piao cheh had an enjoyable time playing at the play land. Yesterday was the first time Sharlene had a fillet-o-fish burger and she finished the whole burger by herself. Normally she only fancies french fries and sundaes.

For dinner, we had fast food again. My sil ordered KFC! I’m feeling really guilty after consuming all these high in calories food. But I tell you, the kids enjoyed them tremendously. There shall be no fast food for the next few months, I hope!

Back To Office

I am back to work today after spending 5 consecutive days at home. It was a long stretch of holiday for me and during these few days I managed to get some shopping done. At least now I don’t have to worry about Sharlene’s CNY clothing. I’ve got her enough outfits and also a pair of shoes when we went to 1Utama, our favorite shopping mall again the other day. As usual I didn’t get myself anything. Tomorrow is New Year eve and in the event my bosses declare 1/2 day off tomorrow, I might just drop by the nearest shopping mall to get myself some new clothes. Yesterday we stayed at home the whole day and since CNY is just around the corner, we started spring-cleaning the house. Everyone in the house helped to clean up including Sharlene. I gave her a piece of cloth and she went around the house, wiped the table, chair, the wall and even her toys.

On the day after Christmas we made a day trip to Malacca. We reached there around noon, walked along the busy Jonker Street and stopped over at one of the less crowded restaurants for lunch. I bet you know what we had for lunch there. Yeah, you’re right...it’s the famous chicken rice balls.

Here's some of the dishes that we had on that day :

The Chicken Rice Balls - instead of serving the rice in its natural form, the rice is made into balls by hand.

A plate of roasted chicken and steamed chicken that was quite tasteless.

Steamed Otak-otak which was the most delicious dish amongst the lot.

Fish Balls and Wanton Soup. Sharlene didn't like the rice balls so she just filled her tummy with 4 of this huge fishballs.

A Fun Day At FRIM

We decided to join my sil and friends for jungle trekking at FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia) last Saturday (13/12). Woke up early on that day and got all the necessary stuff ready i.e. insects repellent (*very important*), a change of new clothes for all of us, face towels, camera, bottles of drinking water and foodstuff as we intend to have our breakfast there before we start our walk in the tropical forest.

We reached FRIM around 8am, searched a while for carpark and finally found a place to park our car at Zone B. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people at FRIM on that morning and most of them are joggers. There are a few sitting areas with tables and benches around this spot and this was the place we had our breakfast together with my sil’s friends.

The weather was extremely fine on that morning. Sharlene and her piao cheh had so much fun running around the place, posed for the camera and I love this picture of them hugging each other. So sweet and loving!

After stuffing ourselves with food, we went to purchase our tickets to the canopy walk (you must not miss this activity if you are going to FRIM) from the souvenir counter (located in the same building as the information counter). The fee is RM5 per adult and RM1 per child. A guide can be requested for a fee however we did not request for one. After all it was easy to follow the trail and we took about 1 hour from the information counter to reach the canopy walkway. If you are fit, you will probably reach there in 30 minutes time.

At first, Sharlene fussed big time about the surrounding and then she refused to walk on her own. Look at her pitiful face. :( No choice daddy got to give her piggyback ride almost half the way up. It was only at one point that she started to come down and walked on her own. *Phew* what a relief for daddy!

After a long walk we finally reached the entrance of the canopy walkway. We were amongst the few who reached there first, waited some time for the rest of them to arrive. And here’s the entrance to the canopy walkway...

The hanging canopy is suspended 30m from the ground and spans over 200m. We went on the walkway one by one. I was a bit worried when it was my turn to step on the walkway as you can see from the pix here, Sharlene was following right behind of me and the walkway is 'moving'! She held my right hand whilst I balanced myself by holding the rope with my left hand.

My niece was so brave to walk on her own, albeit a little panic at the start. For your info, we have to maintain this distance when we are on the walkway.

The 2 kids were standing on the platform (on top of big trees) after completing the first walkway. They were calmer when they went on the 2nd walkway. :)

The photo below shows a view of the platform (it is high...so if you are afraid of height, don’t ever look down otherwise you might not be able to move on...haha.

We had another round of fun at the waterfall before we left the place about 1pm. It was really nice to see the children enjoy themselves, especially Sharlene for I didn’t expect her to like this outing and have the courage to go on the canopy.

Sharlene, you did very well and mummy is so proud of you!

Look At My Pizza

Mummy, look at my pizza. I can see you from here. heeehee

Ok, I am going to eat my pizza now...ahhhmmm

Oopsss!! I've created another hole here. And now I can see you better, mummy..haha

Sharlene was having fun with her pizza when we were dining at Souled Out Café @ Desa Sri Hartamas last Monday (8/12) with hubby’s friend and family. This fussy girl had removed the toppings and only wanted to eat the crispy thin crust. I had a good time nibbled on the toppings left at the side of her plate...haha.

Besides the pizza that Sharlene and 2 other kids were eating, hubby’s friend ordered another wood fired pizza for us and according to him it is the café’s all-time bestsellers! The top of the pizza was loaded with slices of fresh salmon, cherry tomatoes, Japanese mayonnaise, lollo rosso (a type of lettuce with reddish-pink leaves) and a hint of wasabi. I loved it so much that I chomped down 3 pieces at one go. Oohh...it tasted so heavenly! As for hubby, he tried their Lamb Shank and it was very delicious too. :)

The 3 kids had dessert after their meal and they requested for ice cream. Sharlene chose a scoop of vanilla flavor ice cream with wafer. She only took some of the ice cream but finished 3 pieces of wafer. Actually there was only 1 piece on each ice cream but since she liked it so much and kept pestering me for more, Edmund kor kor (who is hubby friend’s 7yo son) was so nice to request another 2 pieces of wafer from the waitress just for her.

Hmmm...the wafer is so yummy. I love it!

Sharlene's 1st Movie Outing

Sharlene has not been to the cinema before and I thought this school holidays would be the best time to bring her there. I think she's big enough to watch a movie in the cinema and it would be a good experience for her and for us as well.

Since last Monday was a public holiday and we have nowhere to go, we decided to bring Sharlene to the cinema for her very first movie. I think she would love to watch Madagascar 2 but since she had watched the show repeatedly on DVD, which hubby bought in JB during our last trip there, we chose to watch Bolt (the only suitable show for Sharlene besides Madagascar 2).

We reached 1 Utama new wing around 11.30am and went straight to GSC to purchase our movie tickets. We waited in line and were considering whether to watch the 3D version or not. After a short while, it was our turn at the counter, hubby picked the 3D version and paid for the tickets. Altogether he paid RM43.00 for 3 tickets. [Adult: RM16 & Child: RM11 (inclusive of RM5.00 surcharge each)]. Then, we bought some stuff to munch in the cinema – large popcorn + ice lemon tea, 1901 hotdog, corn in a cup and hot milo for Sharlene.

We were given 3D specs each before entering the cinema. Sharlene was holding on to my hands as I guide her to our seats, which were very close to the big screen (3rd row from the front). I let her sit in between both of us. Being a first timer, she started to feel scared and kept telling me “Mummy, I want to go home, I don’t want to stay here.” I put my arms over her shoulder and assured her that it will be alright and she's going to enjoy the cartoon. When the show started she stopped whining for a moment, as she was attracted to the adorable and white puppy (Bolt) on screen. I thought she will be fine but when hubby tried to put on the specs for her she fussed again. "I don’t want, I don’t want to wear". She almost wanted to cry out this time. I tried to distract her with food but was rejected by her. At first, she didn’t quite enjoy the show and kept pestering me to go home for the first 30 minutes. I thought of leaving the cinema if she continues to behave this way. I was so afraid she would disturb others from watching the movie. But after awhile I noticed no more complaint from her and her eyes were hooked to the screen. She began to eat and drink her milo too. I heaved a sigh of relief and thereafter we enjoyed the animated show until the end. However, she watched without putting on the 3D specs. :( I must say we had made the wrong decision by watching 3D, should have just watch the normal one instead. Hopefully, she knows how to enjoy 3D movie when she's older.

All in all it was a great family outing for us.

An Eventful Weekend

We have visitors over at our house during the weekend. They were my parents and sister. Oh, I was so delighted to have them here especially my parents who seldom visit KL due to work commitment. Well, actually their main purpose of coming here is to attend my sister’s convocation. They arrived just in time for dinner on Friday evening. Aunty YK cooked some simple dishes for us on that day and my mum even bought my favorite roasted duck from JB. Oooo, the duck was simply delicious!! I should have taken pictures of the duck and the home-cooked dishes that we had on that night but I'd completely forgotten about it as I was too busy eating and chit chatting with my parents and sis...haha!

Hmm...yummy, the mien (noodles) is so delicious!

After breakfast the next morning we took them to Pavilion for shopping. My mum loves to shop and she can go without food for hours when she’s engross in shopping. On the other hand, my dad is one of those who dislike shopping. Back home, he prefers to sit in front of the TV or play golf than go shopping with my mum during weekends. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much time for my mum to shop in Pavilion, as we need to rush back and get ready for my sis’s convo in the evening. She only got herself 2 pair of shoes from Sembonia and a blouse from Parkson. Later in the evening, my parents and I attended my sis’s convo. Poor hubby stayed home to look after Sharlene as Aunty YK has gone on leave.

On Sunday we went to Mid Valley Megamall with my sil's family. Reached there about noon, we headed straight to Metrojaya and whilst shopping, my sil called to say that they are going home first cos' my niece wasn't feeling well. I used to love shopping but not anymore now cos whenever Sharlene is out in the shopping mall I've to keep an eye on her ALL the time.

We left Mid Valley around 6.30pm.

Sharlene refused to go to bed early for the past few nights. While I was chatting with my parents at home, I set some maths questions for Sharlene to do. She loves counting and is able to do some simple addition (with pictures) exercise now.

Sharlene was busy doing her maths exercise that I've given her earlier and that kept her occupied for quite a while....In the meantime, mummy had a great time chatting ...haha! :)

The Weekend After We Returned From JB

We made a wise decision to leave my parents’ place and come back here last Friday. Therefore, we were not caught in the massive traffic jam encountered by most people who return during the weekend after the Hari Raya break. On top of that, we had 2 full days of rest before going back to work on Monday.

Hubby was at home last Saturday and he will be for the rest of the Saturdays. Effective 1st October, he only needs to work 5 days a week but of course with changes in his working hours. We have been hoping for this day to come and at last, his company declared this good news last month. Hubby is really happy about this adjustment and so am I :) Finally, he has more time for himself now and also gets to spend more time with us. At the same time, I can have some breathing space when he’s around to take care of Sharlene...hee hee.

Last Saturday, hubby and I brought Sharlene to the salon for a haircut. Actually, her hair wasn’t that long (as you can see from her previous photos here) except for her fringe that touches beyond her eyebrows. I just can’t tolerate her hair covering part of her face especially when she bends forward to write and read. This girl doesn’t like to have her hair tied up as well. She perspires a lot too and most of the time her hair is soak with stinking sweat especially during hot weather. Although I’d love to keep her hair long but due to all these reasons I’d have to put off this wish until she’s a bit older.

Here's Sharlene after her new haircut. Very boyish looking hor...does she looks like a boy now? Everyone in the house commented that she looks more mischievous and cheeky with this hairstyle.

On the same day we’d booked a badminton court and shortly after lunch hubby drove us there with sil and family. We only spent about 1 hour there but that’s enough for a good workout.

Sharlene in action - swinging her racquet in all directions and yay! after a few unsuccessful attempts, she finally managed to hit the shuttlecock back to me.

She's trying very hard to move her racquet to the direction of the shuttlecock with both her hands.

My nephew who is a school badminton player. He can play quite well but certainly needs more stamina to run around the court.

And my sweet looking niece flashing her smile here.

Dinner At Marco Polo Restaurant

Last Saturday, we had dinner with the newly wed couple, Mollie (my brother-in-law’s sister) and Michael (her British husband) at one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in K.L, Marco Polo Restaurant. At first we had wanted to either go to a chinese restaurant near our place or TGIF at 1Utama. Since we wanted to show Michael the night scene of KL city, we decided to go Marco Polo instead.

Arrived there slightly before 8pm as it was rainy and we waited for hubby to be back from office. He works half day on Saturdays but so happened he had a meeting which ended quite late on that day.

As there were 9 adults and 3 kids, we went in 2 cars. Sharlene had a good ½ hr sleep during the journey to the restaurant. The food was served almost immediately as my sil had cleverly called the restaurant captain and placed an order with him while she’s in the car. She is a frequent patron of the restaurant.

Despite having forty winks in the car, Sharlene was not in a mood at all and she behaved very cranky upon reaching the restaurant. She refused to sit on the highchair given to her by the waitress and demanded us to change her chair. Then, she took off her shoes and made a fuss of everything that comes her way. Luckily I brought along a packet of Japanese rice crackers and that managed to stop her from complaining. Phew!!

A moment before the food was served. The 3 kids - Sharlene and her 2 cousins.

The very familiar and well-known chinese cuisine - Peking Duck. The waiter used a sharp knife to slice the crispy duck skin. Then, he rolled the skin with chinese pancakes and served it with green onions and hoisin sauce. Sharlene shown no interest to the pancakes but loved the crispy duck skin very much.

OOoooooo...look at the yummy big prawn here. Each one of us was served with 1 big prawn. My girl had a great time savoring her gigantic prawn...the pics below will show how my food monster relishes her seafood.

The whole process of licking, sucking and munching finally came to an end. Looking at the ways she handles the prawn, I was glad that she didn't stain her dress. But I really had a tough time cleaning and washing her dirty hands and mouth....Eeeewww!!

She's Enjoying 2 Types Of Ice-Cream At The Same Time

Look at both of Sharlene's hands. She was holding and licking 2 ice-cream at the same time. At first, she was only eating the vanilla ice-cream cone as requested by her. When she saw daddy is opening another ice-cream for himself, she wanted to try that as well. And that's how she ended up holding 2 ice-cream here. But at the end, she still prefers the vanilla ice-cream cone and returned the green ice-lolly to daddy. And look at her blouse, eewww...., its all stained with chocolate ice-cream.

The above pix was taken at my niece's school. Last Sunday morning, after picking up my nephew from his tuition centre we went to my niece's school for a Food & Fun Fair organized by the school. Having 4 booklets of coupon totalling RM200 which we purchased earlier from the school, we spent mostly on food, drinks, games for the kids, and toys. The school was so crowded with teachers, students, parents and their children. There were many games and rides for children, but we were too lazy to queue and wait for it. Nevertheless, my niece had a chance to ride on a pony. As for Sharlene, she had fun time eating and running around the school field. After finishing our coupons, we left the school at around 1pm.

One Day Five Meals

No, I'm not having 5 meals in a day. I'm actually referring to the Astro programme -'One Day Five Meals' showing on Sunday night at 9.00pm. Every Sunday nights, the folks in my house would sit in front of the TV at 9.00pm sharp to watch the show on channel 311. If the kids are watching cartoon shows at that time, they will be told to switch the channel to 311. That's how crazy and addicted they get over this food programme. But so far, we have not visited any of the restaurants or eatery outlets featured in the programme.

After watching the programme on one of the Sundays, my SIL, who loves to try out new food, suggested to go to '1 Stop Cafe' for dinner on Saturday night. This cafe was featured on channel 311 on 15 June 2008. This cafe is located in Ipoh Road. We went last Saturday and based on the location map which was printed in Astro website, our drivers (hubby and BIL) found the place easily.

Here's the map...

This restaurant serves both local and western food, different combination of fresh fruit juices, smoothies, desserts and many more. We ordered 3 types of noodles, western food for the kids and some of the following items shown here....

'Lobak' or spiced meat roll

Tortillas stuffed with fried eggs, minced chicken meat and vege

Sandwich Roll which really looks like sushi. When this plate of sandwich was served on the table, my BIL thought it was sushi. Seaweed sheet and white bread rolled with tuna, eggs, carrot and zucchini sticks.

And lastly, Pumpkin Pie which resembles mini pumpkins. I find this dessert is not very sweet but a bit too oily.

We loved the food there and will definitely visit the place again for more of their other food. And the price is also very reasonable.
