I checked her throat last night and saw a few ulcers sitting inside her throat. The tiny red spots that she got 2 days ago have now turned into painful ulcers. I noticed there’s another tiny blister on her lower lips. Gosh, don’t tell me it’s really HFM!! But there aren’t any blisters on other parts of her body yet, in particular the palms and soles of the feet.
She’s still on Augmentin and her fever hasn’t fully subsided yet, obviously due to the ulcers in her throat. Even drinking water and eating porridge are causing her excruciating pain. Looking back, she has never had any mouth ulcers before. Last night, I found out from one of the health websites that there’s no specific treatment for HFM disease, and antibiotics aren’t effective as it’s a viral infection. The infection simply must run its course. The only help is to lessen the discomfort by taking plenty of fluids and rest more. The signs and symptoms usually clear up in 7 to 10 days.
Looking at her present condition, I will continue to keep her out of school until her fever is gone and mouth ulcers have healed. I am thinking of getting her a tub of vanilla ice cream to soothe her aching throat later. Her face will definitely light up upon seeing her favorite ice cream :D

Oh dear, hope it's not HFM. As it is, ulcers r bad enuff. Hope she gets well soon. How abt her cousin sis n bro? That ice-cream treat is a good idea. It'll surely cheer her up.
Get well soon ya!
Glad to hear that it is not HFM disease. Let her drink more water and boil some barley water for her.
How abt her 2 cousins??
Hope the 3 of them will have a speedy recovery.
Oh poor Sharlene. Gargling with salt water can help to speed up the healing process of the mouth ulcers. It really works. I hope Sharlene get well soon.
Important thing is to make Sharlene comfortable and pain-free. Ice-cream will definitely cheer her up...or blending yoghurt with some fruits... at least she is still getting her dose of vitamins.Especially that she is not eating too well.
Hope that it's just ulcers and nothing else...anyway, she's in good hands, so don't worry ya? Yeah, the ice cream will be good for her...doc's also recommend it for tonsil patients which never fail to light up their face!
guess lots of fluid will help to reduce the symptoms...take care ya..and hope she will recover speedily..
hope sharlene is feeling better!
how is she?
