We're Travelling Tomorrow

and I have loads of packing to do now. So, tonight I definitely won’t be able to sit in front of the computer and blog-hop as usual. I’m going to miss the updates of all the mommies' blogs that I love to frequent. But once I reach JB I’m sure to visit those blogs again. As soon as my little monster is off to bed, I’m going to start stuffing our things into the bags. You won’t believe it that I have 4 bags to stuff and all our bags are rather large...haha, you tell me how to travel light with a toddler coming along with us :( 3 bags will be filled with Sharlene’s belongings.

As I mentioned earlier, I will be going back to my hometown, Johor Bahru with hubby, Aunty YK and Sharlene. Hubby has to go to office tomorrow morning but he will be back by noon, have lunch with us and we are all ready to start our journey after that. I suppose a lot of people will be travelling outstation like us for the forthcoming Hari Raya holidays, especially the Malays who will be celebrating Hari Raya. Most of them will start ‘balik kampung’ (homecoming) tomorrow as all schools are close for the whole of next week. I really hope I’ll have a stress free journey to JB and there will be less traffic jam on the highway tomorrow.

Okay, got to go now. Have a great weekend :)

Photos Of My Swimmer Wannabe

A few days ago I found these photos in my camera, which were snapped by Jasmine (Sharlene’s cousin sister). Last Wednesday, hubby was at home with the 2 girls. He had left the girls upstairs while he takes a rest. As there weren't any adults keeping an eye on them, they were enjoying themselves tremendously with Sharlene putting on her swimsuit, dancing and rolling on the floor with her cousin brother’s swimming floater; and Jasmine busy snapping photos of her with the camera.

This was quite a nice pic of Sharlene 'swimming' on the floor. Oops, something was missing there....she should have put on her goggles lah, haha!

OMG, she rolled on every spots of the parquet.

She even took out her favourite bunny from the room.

Finally, she was exhausted and realized it was time to take a rest. Hence, she stretched out motionless on the floor and relax.

Something To Share

I received a message via sms from a friend yesterday, which I would like to share with all of you here. The said message is as follows:-

Pls sms to others – these items are recalled due to China’s milk scandal:
M&M’s, Snickers, Mentos yoghurt bottle, Dove choc, Oreo wafer sticks, Monmilk, Dutchlady sterilized milk, Wall’s all natural mango, mini poppers ice cream, Magnum ice cream, Moosandwich ice cream, mini Cornetto & Voucan ice cream. Stores have been asked by AVA Singapore to remove them. If you have any of these items at home don’t eat them.

The recent milk scare in China has certainly caused a lot of people to steer clear of dairy products. Fortunately, I do not have stock of the food items mentioned above or else, I would have thrown all these away. Really have to exercise some caution when it comes to buying dairy products now.

The TV Moments

Sharlene is really a TV addict and she watches the TV everyday. She can sit quietly on the couch when she’s in front of the TV most of the time. While she’s glued to the TV, I’m able to have some breathing space during the weekends :) Last Sunday, hubby snapped some photos of Sharlene while she's watching her favorite cartoon ‘Madagascar’.

She was totally engrossed with the characters in Madagascar. She likes this animated cartoon so much that she watches it every other day. I wonder when she ever gets bored with it.

Her favourite character is Alex the lion. He is the king of the New York Zoo. She was giggling and laughing away when she sees Alex and his 3 pals, the zebra, hippo and giraffe in action. Hahaha....so funny.

It's absolutely hilarious to see her get down to the floor and danced to the music of 'i wanna move it move it....'

TV can be very useful too as it helps to entertain Sharlene while Aunty YK does her cooking in the kitchen. Although Aunty YK is busy in the kitchen, she will nevertheless take a peep at what she’s doing in the living room intermittently.

What's In The Box?

Do you want to know what's in the box? Let me tell you - It's mooncakes but not the traditional ones or the snow skin type - its fruit paste sugar free mooncake from Taiwan. One of our neighbours who has been giving us mooncakes every year, presented this box of sugar free cakes to us a few weeks ago. All of us were captivated by the impressive packaging and were very eager to look at the contents. Without much hesitation, I untied the ribbon and lifted the box cover.....oh! I was totally amazed to look at the miniature mooncakes inside the box.

....Take a look here...

See, so cute and small right....and that was really the smallest mooncakes I have ever seen, weighing 48g each. There are altogether 8 pieces of mini mooncakes in the box. The stuffing of the sugar free fruit moon cake is made from selected Taiwan grown products, such as tomatoes, mangoes, passion fruits and cranberries. My favourite one is Green tea Adzuki bean (red bean and green tea flavor) as opposed to the fruity flavors. Nothing really great and special about this sugar free cakes except for being sugar free. For me, I still prefer traditional mooncakes and jelly mooncakes like the one here......

Delicious jelly mooncakes with assorted fillings of cendol, yam, sweet corn and red bean.

Although the moon cake festival is over, we are still having plenty of mooncakes at home. We've been stuffing ourselves with mooncakes every night but no one seems to like the pretty sugar free mooncakes or even take a second look at it. Hence, the box of mooncakes is still sitting in the dining area waiting for someone to bite on.

Annual Sports Day - 6 September 2008

Two Saturdays ago, Hubby and I attended Sharlene’s first sports day at one of the secondary schools field in Sri Damansara. A few weeks before the event, we received a notice from the kindy informing us that all participants have to reach the school field by 7.30am. We were so excited and eager to attend the sports day, as Sharlene will be taking part in one of the events.

On that morning I woke Sharlene up much earlier than her normal school days, got her ready in her sports wear and off we went to the school. I thought she would kick up a big fuss for waking up so early but to my surprise, she didn’t and was very cooperative with me :) Reached there on time and brought her to see Teacher Apple (her class teacher). In the course of waiting for the event to start, Sharlene stayed with the teachers and other children while hubby and I wandered around the school field with our camera.

Sharlene in her sports wear looking a bit worried and uneasy, as she couldn’t find daddy and mummy:( Instead of sitting down with her friends, she was looking everywhere for us.

We waited for about half an hour before Sharlene’s event (‘picking up eggs’). Here she's waiting for her turn to 'pick up eggs' and put it into a basket. She did quite well but unfortunately the photos showing her in action were rather blur :( my camera skill is lousy ler....definitely needs improvement.

Although her team didn't win the event, she did her best and was nevertheless very happy with a medal and a bag of goodies received at the end of the event. She even wore her medal in the car and refused to part with her bag of goodies. Guess what's inside the bag? I thought it was some unhealthy stuff but I was wrong... the contents are 2 sample packets of Enfagrow A+ formulated milk powder, 2 sample packets of dugro 1 plus milk powder, a can of green tea which Sharlene willingly gave it to her cousin brother, an egg tart and a hotdog bun. After opening the bag Sharlene was a tad disappointed over the contents and didn't even take a second look at it. But I was so glad that the school didn't give out any junkies to the kids.

Super Sweet Corn

Two weeks ago hubby’s aunty from Hong Kong went to Cameron Highland and she bought us some pearl sweet corn from there. The pearl sweet corn was so much bigger than the ordinary sweet corns. The wet market in my area sells this as well and the vendor said that we could actually eat it raw and it taste very sweet and juicy.

The sweet corn was as sweet as honey even after boiling it. And if you look at the pix carefully, it looks slightly different from the normal sweet corn. Sharlene and I like to eat sweet corn and we simply couldn’t resist those super sweet, crunchy and juicy pearl sweet corns. Try one today and I'm sure you love it!

Where Is Mummy?

Sharlene was wondering where is mummy last night. Hubby told me that Sharlene kept asking repeatedly, “Where is mummy?” in the bedroom until she dozed off on her bed. Poor girl, she missed mummy so much. Mummy missed you too last night. But so sad, she didn't miss mummy when she’s happily playing and watching TV. She only starts to realize my absence and think of me during bedtime as I sleep next to her (with my eyes close and pretend to sleep) until she drifts off everyday. As I was away last night, hubby took over my ‘pretending to sleep’ job. I came home around 9pm and had my dinner before I took my shower. When I entered the bedroom I saw Sharlene sleeping soundly with daddy by her side. What a sweet sight to look at. Instead of pretending to sleep, hubby fell asleep too. Guess he must be extremely tired. Every now and then when I’m worn-out I will fall asleep in this manner too.

So, where did mummy go last night?

Where else...I was working in the office. I really hate it when my boss gives instructions to do this and that at the eleventh-hour and expect it to be done the same day....Argggghh. This happened yesterday and my colleagues and I have to stay back to complete an assignment given at around 5pm. That’s the working life I have to put up with although I was a bit frustrated yesterday. But luckily today is a Friday. And I can’t wait to get home to be with my girl and enjoy every moment with her this weekend.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Sharlene Knows How To Control The Mouse

After teaching and guiding Sharlene for some time, she finally can control the mouse independently. At first, I have to sit next to her, direct and click on the mouse for her while she looks at the screen whenever she’s having fun with the computer. Her favorite children websites is Sesame Street and she loves the character, Elmo the most! She gets really addicted to the games at this website and loves to play it over and over again. I only switch on the PC for her when I’m at home during the weekends and limit her usage for just ½ hour. Nowadays, she often exceeds the 1/2 hour limit. Since now she knows how to press the keyboard, move the mouse, position it to where she wants to go and click on the mouse perfectly (so far only at Sesame Street website), I can leave her at the computer upstairs while I get some of my things done. But it’s only FOR A WHILE before she clicks on something else and starts yelling for Mummmmy !! and I’m like a mad woman running towards the computer to see what she has done to my PC.

Sharlene has a book on computer learning given by her kindy. If I’m not mistaken, hubby paid a fee for that as well. These days, kids are exposed to modern technology at such a tender age. During my time there wasn’t any syllabus like computer learning in the kindergarten. Time has certainly changed now. But at least she knows the basic thing like identifying some main component of a PC such as the keyboard, the screen, speaker and of course, the mouse. I’m certainly proud of her achievement again.

A couple of weeks ago while Sharlene was at the PC, I wanted to snap a photo of her and asked her to give me a nice smile but look at what she gave me instead.....

......her mischievous look and cheeky grin.

The Word "Because"

Lately, I noticed that Sharlene is fond of using the word ‘because’ to reply whenever we ask her a question. I was amazed when she first uttered this word sometime ago. She seems to be able to use this word appropriately. For instance, last night she took her school bag in the room and rummaged through the contents. When I saw her doing it, I asked:

Me: Sharlene, why are you taking out all your books? (She took out her school books and pencil case from the bag and placed it neatly on the floor)
Sharlene: Because I want to check my books. (After ‘checking’ her books, she insisted on putting all the items into her bag again). You see, she wants to take over my role now.

Another scenario in the bathroom where she refuses to brush her teeth:

Me: Sharlene, why you don’t want to brush your teeth?
Sharlene: Because I don’t like the toothpaste. (She prefers the one with strawberry flavor).

One more scenario - When she wakes up on a Saturday morning and I’m in the bedroom, she would say:
Mummy, Sharlene no school today because today is a Saturday.
Likewise when she wakes up on a Sunday morning and I’m in the bedroom, she would still say:
Mummy, Sharlene no school today because today is a Saturday. LOL!!

The Two Girls

I’m glad Sharlene, being my only child has her cousin sister to spend time with. Although Jasmine stays in a different house, which is just next-door, she does practically everything in my house except for sleeping where she goes back to her own comfy home. Having 2 boisterous gals playing, screaming, fighting and crying under one roof, my house is really in chaos all the time. They can drive all of us bonkers with their thunderous voice and mischievous actions, especially Sharlene. But hubby seems able to tolerate their playfulness. That’s how patient he can be. Sometimes, their loud voices can even be heard upstairs when I’m having my shower in my bathroom. So, you can imagine the kind of commotion they cause.

Apart from making the house upside down, the 2 playful girls can even create a scene in the car. Both of them were singing, dancing and giggling away in hubby's car. We were in the car one night waiting for my sil, bil and nephew who were busy choosing a digital camera in the shopping complex. As the 2 gals were so engrossed in singing - from English songs to mandarin songs, and a Korean tune from the Korean drama Full House, they didn’t realized we were in the car waiting for more than half an hour. Poor hubby and I had a tough time waiting with 2 hyperactive kids in the car. Conversely, the gals are not allowed to behave the way you see them in the pix when we are traveling on the road.

Take a look here at some of the activities the gals love doing together –

READING - Both Sharlene and Jasmine have shown great interest in books since young. Sharlene can be naughty at times when she refused to lend her books to her piao cheh.

EATING and SHARING - In terms of food, the 2 girls have no problem in sharing with each other.

PLAYING - Sharlene and Jasmine having great fun together.

Discovery Of A Mistake

Most of the time Sharlene likes to disturb me when I’m having my dinner. Sigh! I cannot even have my dinner in peace. My food monster will come to the dining table, look at the dishes placed on the table and demand for food. If the dishes are not to her liking, she will then ask for a slice of bread. A few days ago while I was having my dinner, I was surprised she didn’t come near the dining table. I looked around and saw her at the living area. She was working on the maths workbook I bought for her sometime back. I continued to have my dinner and minutes later she came to me with her book. She shown me the page, counted the objects and told me that she couldn’t find number ‘9’ (the correct number she’s supposed to circle). She asked me several times ‘where is number 9’. I immediately told her there was a mistake in the book and she can write number ‘9’ at the corner of the book herself.

Here’s the page where Sharlene spotted the mistake. And on my advice, she wrote the correct number and circled it herself at the side.

Apart from doing school homework, which is mainly colouring and letter writing, Sharlene does maths exercise as well. Her maths exercise is on a piece of A4 paper prepared by me. I used colour pencils to make it more appealing. The maths exercise given by me (slightly more difficult i.e. numbers from 1-25) is fairly similar to the ones she is learning in pre-school now, which consists of – fill in the missing numbers, count and match the objects to the correct numbers, count and circle the correct numbers, draw according to the number given and a few more. She likes counting very much and so far, she is very eager to complete the worksheet given by me. I’m really a happy mummy when my little girl shows interest in learning.

Back To Normal Day

Today, I’m back to office and everything else will be as usual again. No more visitors in my house, no need to think of what and where to eat, no more going out in a big group, and most of all no more stuffing myself with food the whole day! I really felt so guilty for eating too much the past 3 days and I’m glad that today no more curries, roti canai, fried stuff, char kueh teow, rojak, cendol, pastries and other hawker food (hubby's relative from HK only like to eat hawker food). Taken too much of those stuff and that's why I’m only having cheese toast for lunch today.

Last night, after we had dinner with hubby’s relatives from HK and some of his other relatives here, we went over to Taman Desa to pick up Sharlene’s nanny. It was just a short drive from where we left and upon reaching there, Sharlene called out to her Aunty vociferously. As usual, Aunty YK walked to the car with her bags full of things. Sharlene was overjoyed to see her dearest aunty again. She shown her affection to Aunty YK once again by calling her name, kissing, hugging and asking hubby, “Daddy, please on the light I want to see Aunty’s face”. *Rolled-eyes*. Hubby just laughed but I felt a little jealous of my little girl’s obvious affection towards her nanny. This is always the usual scene in the car. But on the other hand, I count myself lucky to have someone like Aunty YK to take care of Sharlene wholeheartedly.
